The Core Equipment for Municipal Solid Waste Reduction – Air Separators
In the "reduction, resource recovery, and harmless treatment" system for municipal solid waste, air separators, with their highly efficient sorting capabilities for complex materials, have become a key hub in the waste treatment process. Unlike sorting equipment designed for single categories, municipal solid waste air separators must handle mixtures of multiple components such as kitchen waste, plastics, paper, textiles, and bricks. Based on aerodynamics, they integrate vibration conveying and multi-stage sorting technologies to achieve precise separation of materials of different densities, providing pre-treatment assurance for subsequent incineration, landfill, and recycling processes.

From a workflow perspective, air separators are designed with a multi-stage processing logic to address the complexity of municipal solid waste. First, the mixed waste, after front-end crushing (particle size controlled between 50-200mm), is conveyed to the pre-treatment chamber by a sealed belt conveyor. A high-frequency vibrating screen performs preliminary impurity removal, separating "light impurities" such as silt and fine kitchen waste with a particle size less than 10mm, preventing subsequent clogging of the sorting channels. Subsequently, the pre-treated material enters the core sorting chamber, which is equipped with three sets of guide vanes at different angles and variable frequency fans, generating a gradient airflow of 0.3-5 m/s: The low-velocity airflow at the top (0.3-1 m/s) lifts lightweight materials such as plastic film, waste paper, and dry leaves, which are collected by a cyclone separator and used as recyclables or fuel feedstock; the medium-velocity airflow in the middle (1-2.5 m/s) separates medium-density kitchen waste and wet textiles, which are transported through closed pipes to an anaerobic fermentation or incineration system; the high-velocity airflow at the bottom (2.5-5 m/s), in conjunction with a vibration device, pushes high-density heavy materials such as bricks, metals, and glass towards the heavy material outlet, where they can be further purified into recycled aggregates through magnetic separation and screening. A single unit can process 15-60 tons of municipal solid waste per hour, achieving a separation purity of over 92% for both light and heavy materials, effectively reducing energy consumption and pollutant emissions in subsequent processing stages.
The equipment's structural design is fully adapted to the diversity and corrosive nature of municipal solid waste. The sorting chamber is constructed entirely of stainless steel, with an inner wall coated with a PTFE anti-stick coating to prevent the adhesion of sticky materials such as kitchen waste and oil, reducing cleaning frequency. The air guide plates and fan units are modularly assembled, allowing for rapid parameter adjustments based on seasonal changes in waste composition (e.g., higher proportion of kitchen waste in summer, higher proportion of plastic and paper in winter), enhancing sorting flexibility. Simultaneously, the equipment integrates a three-stage purification system of "cyclone dust removal + spray washing + activated carbon adsorption," which not only collects dust generated during sorting (emission concentration below 8mg/m³) but also removes odorous gases, solving the secondary pollution problem of traditional sorting processes. Furthermore, the equipment is equipped with an intelligent monitoring system that uses infrared sensors to monitor material flow and airflow velocity in real time, automatically adjusting fan power and vibration frequency to ensure stable sorting efficiency.

In practical applications, air separators are widely used in municipal solid waste incineration plants, landfill pretreatment workshops, and recycling sorting centers. Taking a provincial capital city's waste treatment plant as an example, after introducing this equipment, it can separate 280 tons of recyclable materials (plastics, paper, etc.), 450 tons of incinerable lightweight materials, and 220 tons of heavy recycled aggregate from 1200 tons of mixed waste daily. This reduces landfill volume by 40%, increases incineration plant thermal efficiency by 15%, and lowers treatment costs by over 8 million yuan annually. Simultaneously, the equipment's enclosed design effectively reduces the spread of odors, resulting in a more than 70% decrease in complaints from nearby residents, achieving a dual improvement in environmental and economic benefits.

With the advancement of my country's "zero-waste city" construction, the demand for refined sorting in urban waste treatment is increasing. Air separators, through efficient classification of mixed waste, not only match optimal treatment paths for different waste components but also promote the transformation of waste treatment from "extensive landfilling" to "precise resource recovery," becoming a core equipment support for building a green circular economy system in cities.
